Badshahi Masjid, Lahore, Pakistan

The Badshahi Masjid (The Emperor's Masjid), was built in 1673 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Lahore, Pakistan. It is one of the city's best known landmarks and a major tourist attraction epitomizing the beauty and grandeur of the Mughal era. The Masjid can accommodate over 55,000 worshipers and ranked as the second largest Masjid in Pakistan. Faisal MAsjid, Islamabad happens to be the largest MAsjid in Pakistan. The architecture and design of the Badshahi Masjid is closely related to the Jamia Masjid in Delhi, India, which was built in 1648 by Aurangzeb's father and predecessor, emperor Shah Jahan. The significance of the Masjid stems from the fact that it contains a museum that shows rare hand-written manuscripts of Holy Quran and some other rare artifacts of Muslim regimes of past. This is a must-visit place for all Muslim tourists as well as locals visiting Lahore. A life-time experience.
